MINISTRY OF THE ECONOMY / DG INDUSTRY, NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND RESEARCH

MINISTRY OF THE ECONOMY / DG INTER AND UECCT:

The Directorate General for Industry, New Technologies and Research is in charge for coordinating the Ministry of Economy’s policies on multi-sector diversification, sustainable growth and business financing. It is responsible for the development of the priority sectors digital technologies, start-ups, cybersecurity, health technologies, clean technologies, supply chain 4.0, industry 4.0), alongside more traditional activities (industrial development, financing and state aid).

The main mission of the Circular Economy & Ecotechnologies unit is to stimulate and support the growth of the Cleantech sector in Luxembourg. As the sector is highly heterogeneous and diversified, efforts are not limited to pure cleantech companies, but also encompass other sectors developing sustainable and clean technologies (sustainable construction, sustainable mobility, circular economy). Luxembourg is promoted as a host country for international cleantech companies and the internationalization efforts of Luxembourg companies are supported. Pursuing the dual aim of diversifying the economy through Cleantech, while strengthening a sustainable, resilient and competitive economy priorities are on:

- Building resilient and sustainable value chains

- Driving the digitally enabled circular economy transition

- Sustainable and innovative construction

MINISTRY OF THE ECONOMY / DG ENERGIE:

The Directorate General for Energy coordinates the Ministry of Economy’s and thus the country's energy policy. It defines policies and objectives with respect to (i) the energy transition, (ii) regulating the different energy markets and (iii) ensuring a security of supply of the different energy vectors. It is responsible for the implementation of these policies and hence active in the following fields:

• Electricity,

• Natural Gas,

• Solid and liquid fuels,

• Renewable energies,

• Hydrogen (H2),

• Energy efficiency and energy savings,

• European politics and international relations in the field of energy,

• Promotion of energy activities and technologies.

In the renewable energy directorate, the work on hydrogen - in view of decarbonizing sectors in Luxembourg which are hard to electrify - focuses stimulating the development of an interconnected H2 infrastructure allowing for the import and transit of this climate neutral energy carrier. Besides it is a key priority to develop (an) instrument(s) to support the production of renewable hydrogen in Luxembourg making certain volumes available in the short term, potentially triggering the development of innovative solutions. Its production is also supported at the international level to secure sufficient volumes of competitive sources in the medium and longer terms.
